As a freight forwarder, handling special equipment such as OT (Open Top), FR (Flat Rack), and RF (Reefer) containers requires specialized knowledge and expertise.

Understanding the requirements: Familiarize ourselves with the specific requirements and characteristics of each special equipment type, including their dimensions, load capacities, and any unique features. This understanding will help us plan and execute the shipment effectively.

Assessing cargo suitability: Determine whether the cargo is suitable for the chosen special equipment type. OT containers are suitable for cargo that exceeds the standard height or requires top loading. FR containers are suitable for oversized or irregularly shaped cargo that cannot fit inside standard containers. RF containers are designed for temperature-controlled cargo.

Coordinating equipment availability: Ensure the availability of the required special equipment type for the shipment. Coordinate with container providers and carriers to secure the appropriate OT, FR, or RF containers based on the cargo's requirements.

Special handling instructions: Communicate any special handling instructions to the shipper or consignee. For example, if using an OT container, instruct the shipper on the proper way to load and secure the cargo, taking into consideration the container's open top nature.

Cargo securing and protection Provide guidance to the shipper or consignee on properly securing and protecting the cargo inside the special equipment. This may involve using suitable lashing materials, bracing, or additional packaging to ensure the cargo's safety during transportation.

Temperature control and monitoring: For RF containers, assist the shipper in setting the required temperature and humidity levels. Monitor the container's temperature throughout the shipment and address any deviations or issues promptly.

Documentation and customs procedures: Ensure that all necessary documentation, including packing lists, shipping instructions, and customs declarations, accurately reflect the special equipment type and its specific characteristics. Follow the appropriate customs procedures for special equipment, such as declaring any oversized cargo or temperature-sensitive goods.

Carrier selection: Choose a carrier with experience and expertise in handling special equipment shipments. Verify that the selected carrier has the necessary equipment, infrastructure, and capabilities to handle OT, FR, or RF containers safely and efficiently.

Tracking and monitoring: Utilize tracking systems and tools to monitor the movement of the special equipment shipment. Keep the shipper and consignee informed about the shipment's status, estimated arrival time, and any potential issues that may arise.

Compliance with regulations: : Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards for handling special equipment shipments, such as safety regulations for securing cargo, temperature control guidelines for RF containers, and customs requirements for oversized cargo.
