Every Exporter / Importer needs to first get registered with DGFT and apply online for Import Export Code called IEC Certificate and after getting IEC Code allotted by DGFT (Director General Foreign Trade), the entity can legally undertake exports/imports to & from India.

Likewise, the exporter/importer entity needs to get registered with respective Commodity Board / Council as the case may be and obtain Registration – Cum – Membership Certificate called RCMC in order to get export benefits announced by the Government from time to time.

First Time Export / Import Registration – This procedure need to be followed by every exporter / importer for their very first consignment / shipment which they intend to execute and satisfy the relevant customs officers on their any kind of questions / clarification sought by them related to the shipment to be executed.

AD Code / IFSC Code Registration – After IEC and RCMC , this is another registration which is mandatory for every exporter to get AD Code / IFSC Code of their bank through whom all the inward / outward remittance shall be routed / transacted for receiving payments from their buyers and for making payments to their suppliers. Apart from the other required documents to be submitted to Indian Customs through their ‘ICEGATE portal , the bank need to send their Authorized Dealer Code and IFSC Code of the bank on their letterhead duly signed, stamped and emailed to EDI Department of the Indian Customs at their designated e-mail address with a copy to the shipper and thus, once checked and approved by the concerned customs officer, the entity’s bank’s AD Code and IFSC Code gets registered at ‘ICEGATE and then , it allows the first shipping bill to be generated from the customs station wherefrom the sea / air shipment to be carried out.

There are exporters who imports raw material from other countries which are necessary for production on finished goods meant for exports to third country. So, the DGFT has announced export promotion scheme called EPCG – Export Promotion Capital Goods under which an exporter need not pay any custom duty for importing the raw material from outside India and rather use the same for producing / manufacturing the finished goods that are to be exported to other foreign country and thus, contributing towards the Export Trade Ex-India. The exporter need to give an undertaking to achieve certain amount of export obligations as defined by the DGFT for related Export Commodity within the next 5years or so as per the guidelines of the DGFT.

Thus, we be a complete guide for our exporters and importers to assist them in completing all export and import formalities and compliances throughout.
